What causes a white or black screen then a system lockup when a 3D Pipes screen saver is installed?

The 3D Pipes screen saver is not a default Model 4200-SCS setting and is not compatible with the video display card shipped prior to September, 2003. The system can be returned to operation by power-cycling and selecting a screen saver other than 3D Pipes. Systems that have been upgraded to the Pentium 4 SBC do not display this problem.
